Term: 2023 - 2027

Audra Smith is the first community‑elected Shire President of the Shire of Ashburton, a role she holds with deep gratitude and a genuine love for the community and place she calls home. Having lived, worked and raised her family in the region, Audra’s commitment to community is grounded in long‑standing relationships and a shared understanding of what matters most to local people.

President Smith’s leadership is shaped by the values she lives every day: service, respect, kindness, accountability and collaboration. She believes decisions are strongest when they reflect the voices of the community, and she works hard to ensure people feel heard, respected and included. Whether listening to residents at community events, advocating for better services, or building partnerships across the region, she approaches her role with openness, humility and a strong sense of responsibility.

With experience across education, disability, regional development, community advocacy and strategic planning, President Smith brings a thoughtful approach to navigating the complex challenges facing regional communities. She is passionate about improving local services and facilities, strengthening community wellbeing, and championing long‑term opportunities that help Ashburton communities thrive socially, culturally, environmentally and economically.

Beyond her role as Shire President, Audra also contributes her skills and regional perspective through several leadership roles, including:

  • Pilbara Country Zone Delegate – representing local government interests across the Pilbara and working collaboratively to progress shared regional priorities.
  • Regional Development Australia Board Member – supporting sustainable growth, local jobs and long‑term planning for Northern WA.
  • WALGA State Council Member (Honours, People & Place Committee) – ensuring all communities have a strong voice in state‑level policy and advocacy.
  • Board Member, AWARE Group Inc. – helping families access disability support and build stronger, more connected networks.

What drives President Smith most is her belief in fairness, collaboration and the power of community. She is committed to representing the Shire with honesty, care and a genuine dedication to people. Her vision is simple but strong: a vibrant, connected and future‑focused Shire where every person feels supported, valued and proud to call this region home.

With a collaborative leadership style and a focus on meaningful engagement, Audra Smith works to ensure regional voices are not only heard, but reflected in the decisions that shape the future of local communities.
