The Shire of Ashburton is continuing to take all necessary measures to protect our community and to ensure we do what we can to lessen the impact of COVID-19 in our region.
We are following guidance and implementing recommendations and restrictions that are being advised from both Federal and State Governments.
We are working with our Working Together for Onslow Partner, Chevron, as well as our Community Infrastructure and Services Partner, Rio Tinto, to maintain essential services and help our towns be prepared and well placed through this pandemic. We acknowledge their full support during this challenging time.
Shire of Ashburton President, Kerry White said that each member of our community needs to step up and be responsible.
“We all have a role to play in preventing the spread of this virus and protecting our loved ones” urged Councillor White.
“I commend businesses for adapting to the directives from our nation’s leaders with regards to limited trading conditions and where necessary shutting down operations as we continue to monitor this evolving situation.
“I strongly encourage our community members to follow the social distancing guidelines put in place and observe these measures in our shops, in our outdoor areas and in our workplaces.
“We will continue working to ensure we deliver essential services to our communities.
“In Onslow, the airport will remain open. It is a critical piece of infrastructure for the community and also enables Wheatstone’s domestic gas operations to keep the lights on in WA homes.
“Our libraries have renewed all library books and DVDs currently out on loan.
“We are working with other state agencies to provide community leadership and to inform the public of planning, preparations, and response plus recovery activities if and as required”.
