Shire of Ashburton Celebrates Local Star, Andrew Price, crowned Pilbara Regional Sports Person of the Year
The Shire of Ashburton is proud to announce that Andrew Price has been recognised for his outstanding achievements in adventure sports, receiving the title of Pilbara Regional Sports Person of the Year.
Toby Cotterell, Regional Manager for the Pilbara from the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, visited Onslow to personally announce Andrew’s achievement. His visit highlighted the significance of Andrew’s recognition at both the regional level and locally, with Andrew also being named Sportsperson of the Year at the 2025 Active Ashburton Sports Awards. This dual acknowledgment celebrates not only Andrew’s personal feats but also his ongoing contributions to the Onslow sporting community.
Andrew, currently employed as the Shire of Ashburton’s Swimming Pool Coordinator, is an accomplished mountaineer whose extraordinary feats include completing two Everest Base Camp treks, summiting Borneo’s highest mountain, multiple 6,000 m peaks, and a 7,126 m expedition across Nepal and Tibet, making him only the 18th Australian to achieve this milestone.
In addition to his personal achievements, Andrew is a committed community leader and mentor. He assists with Onslow climbing programs, and has led expeditions in Nepal, consistently prioritising the safety and development of his teammates over his own summits. He is currently preparing for a 2026 Himalayan peak climb and a future Everest attempt.
Andrew’s selection for the Pilbara Regional Sports Person of the Year reflects not only his exceptional skill and resilience in extreme adventure sports but also his dedication to fostering participation, safety, and inspiration for others in both the local community and broader mountaineering circles.
The Shire congratulates Andrew on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his ongoing commitment to promoting health, adventure and community engagement across Onslow and the wider Pilbara.
