Project Information – Stage 2 Onslow Streetscape
The Onslow Streetscape Project aims to revitalise the town centre by improving amenity, safety, and accessibility. The design objectives include reinforcing tree-lined avenues, creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment, providing shade and gathering spaces, enhancing parking, strengthening sense of place through landscaping and public art, and encouraging private investment.

Stage 1 Works
Stage 1 of the project is currently under construction between the Beadon Bay Hotel and the Onslow Beach Resort. Civil works were largely completed by Christmas 2025. The remaining Stage 1 works, including the installation of shade structures and landscape planting, are expected to be completed by mid-April 2026.
Stage 2 Works
Stage 2 of the Streetscape Project is planned to commence in mid-March 2026 and be completed by Christmas 2026. The Stage 2 works extend from the Beadon Bay Hotel west to the new Ocean View Caravan Park. Similar to Stage 1, the works include major stormwater upgrades, particularly around First Street, including construction of a new ocean outfall.
While extreme cyclone-induced flooding cannot be fully mitigated, the proposed stormwater upgrade works will significantly improve system performance during more frequent 5% AEP (1 in 20-year) and 20% AEP (1 in 5-year) storm events.
Stage 2 Project Scope
The scope of works for the Stage 2 Streetscape Project includes:
- Major stormwater upgrades and a new ocean discharge through the Stage 1 caravan park access road (First Street Drainage Project);
- Retention and reinforcement of mature red river gums along Second Avenue;
- Construction of a new road to access the recently completed Ocean View Caravan Park;
- New roundabouts at the intersections of First Street and Second Avenue, and at the entrance to the new Ocean View Caravan Park;
- Construction of a new car park adjacent to the recently completed Anzac Memorial Park;
- Widening of the existing median and landscape planting to match Stage 1 works;
- Installation of new garden beds and planting within available spaces;
- Construction of 2.5-metre-wide footpaths on both sides of Second Avenue;
- Reconstruction and regrading of existing roads, including new kerbs and asphalt overlays; and
- Sealing of the access road and car park / turnaround area at Anzac Memorial Park.
Construction Considerations
The delivery of Stage 2 presents several challenges that will require detailed planning and coordination, including:
- Temporary closure of the new Ocean View Caravan Park while works are undertaken in that area, including temporary access roads and the new access road west of Anzac Memorial Park;
- Temporary closure of the existing Ocean View Caravan Park to allow installation of the ocean outfall;
- Closure of the western section of Second Avenue during reconstruction works, with temporary access arrangements required;
- Lane closures along Second Avenue between Simpson Street and First Street, requiring traffic diversions; and
- Relocation or lowering of underground power, water, and telecommunications services, for which planning is already well advanced.
Planning and Management Measures
To support delivery of the Stage 2 works, the following arrangements have been made:
- Traffic diversions and temporary road closures will be required; however, appropriate access to private properties will be maintained at all times and advised in advance;
- The newly completed Ocean View Caravan Park will not open until 1 June 2026, allowing early works (including temporary and permanent access roads) to be undertaken; and
- The existing Ocean View Caravan Park will close on 30 September 2026 to facilitate construction of the new ocean outfall. These works must be completed by Christmas 2026 to avoid the cyclone season. All bookings from 1 October 2026 will be accommodated within the newly completed caravan park.
Further information will be provided to affected property owners in due course and well ahead of any temporary road closures. A detailed traffic management plan will be prepared to coordinate the works, including traffic control and temporary signage arrangements.
