The Shire of Ashburton will continue to phase two of the upgrade of Tom Price Skate Park following Council’s endorsement of the 2021/22 budget at the August Ordinary Meeting of Council.
Upgrade of the skate park commenced earlier this year following community consultation facilitated by Skate Sculpture and concept approved by Council in March.
Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was pleased the next phase of works could now progress and that the requests of the community had been considered.
“The main addition to the skate park will be a feature fishbowl element”, said Councillor White.
“An additional section will also be created expanding the skate park and includes some of the most frequently requested skate park obstacles including a stair set, A-frame and bank to extension.
“Council is aware of the popularity of the skate park in Tom Price and are confident that the completed project will meet community expectations and the park will provide a quality amenity for the community for years to come”.
A request for tender is being prepared with the approved design and specifications that will be advertised in the coming weeks.
It is anticipated construction will get underway late 2021.
The Shire of Ashburton have committed $250,000 to the project, with Rio Tinto also committing $400,000 to the upgrade and additional funding is currently being sought through Building Better Regions Funding.
