Paraburdoo celebrated the opening of their new state-of-the-art Childcare Centre on the weekend, with families and children given a sneak peek of the centre before enjoying an afternoon of fun and festivity.
A community showcase formed part of the wider celebrations with a line-up of local entertainment, a variety of stallholders and an interactive wildlife display from Ranger Red.
An assortment of inflatables were set up for the kids, with the 30 metre giant waterslide a huge hit with both children and a few brave parents.
Local community groups fed the town with an assortment of culinary options while the team from Fair Game kept people active with a program of interesting sports and activities.
Deputy Shire President Cr Linton Rumble said that the opening of the new centre was an important milestone for Paraburdoo.
“This great new facility is a much welcomed addition to the town and provides parents with improved options for a work life balance,” said Cr Rumble. “I would like to thank Rio Tinto and the Pilbara Development Commission who have helped make this much-needed family service a reality for our community.”
Rio Tinto general manager Paraburdoo Operations Gabe Iwanow said Paraburdoo Childcare Centre is a fantastic achievement for the community.
“Working families are an important part of the Paraburdoo community and our workforce, and we are proud to be the major contributor of this new and purpose-built facility. Our collaboration with the Shire of Ashburton and One Tree has created a modern and engaging space for children to learn and play,” Ms Iwanow said.
Pilbara Development Commission Chief Executive Officer said the availability of childcare was a key consideration of families who are relocating to regional communities such as Paraburdoo.
“The new centre enhance the quality of life for residents, which supports the Pilbara Cities vision of creating vibrant and sustainable regional communities that people choose to call home.”
One Tree Community Services was recently awarded an exceeding national quality standards rating for their centre in Paraburdoo will continue to bring this quality of care to the new facilities. “We are excited by the new child care centre and we thank Rio Tinto, the Pilbara Development Commission and the Shire for their ongoing support. The $4.66 million childcare centre has been supported by Rio Tinto, the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Pilbara Cities Initiative, administered by the Pilbara Development Commission, and the Shire of Ashburton.
