The Shire of Ashburton is proud to announce the completion of the Pannawonica Sports Club Alfresco and Playground Renewal Project, delivering enhanced community facilities that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come.
Delivered in partnership with Rio Tinto through the Inspire Community Partnership, the project features a new viewing deck at the Pannawonica Sports Club and upgraded playground facilities, creating a more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable space for people of all ages.
The improvements strengthen two of Pannawonica's most valued community assets, providing greater opportunities for recreation, social connection and community gatherings. The project follows the successful delivery of the Pannawonica Bike Park and represents another significant milestone for the Inspire Community Partnership, which continues to invest in initiatives that enhance liveability and deliver lasting benefits for the community and Ashburton region.
Shire of Ashburton President Audra Smith said the project was a fantastic example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to community wellbeing.
“These upgrades provide a wonderful space for local families, sporting groups and visitors to come together, connect and enjoy everything Pannawonica has to offer.
“The Shire is proud to work alongside Rio Tinto through the Inspire Community Partnership to deliver projects that make a real difference to our communities. The new deck and playground will benefit residents of all ages and further strengthen Pannawonica as a vibrant and connected place to live.
“On behalf of the Shire, I'd like to thank Rio Tinto, Byblos Constructions and the Pannawonica community for their support and patience throughout the delivery of this project,” she said.
Pannawonica Sports Club President Cam Prentice welcomed the upgrade and the benefits it will bring to the local community.
“Our members at the Pannawonica Sporting Club are thrilled with this fantastic new addition, which has brought fresh character and a much-needed facelift to our facilities.
“This investment will not only enhance the experience of our members and clubs, but also strengthen our ability to provide a welcoming, inclusive space where people get a real sense of community belonging and spirit through whichever club or activity they join,” Cam said.
On Saturday, 17 October 2026, the community came together to officially celebrate this important milestone, with the grand reopening event showcasing the project's success, alongside the annual Pannawonica Python’s Movember charity match.
The afternoon showcased community pride, while reinforcing the positive impact the upgrades will have on Pannawonica for years to come.
