Begin with a Book: Family Workshop

Thursday, 27 August 2026 | 9:30AM - 10:30AM

Join us at the Nintirri Centre for this free, fun, and interactive workshop exploring the power of everyday conversations in supporting your child's learning, language development, and future success.

This warm and engaging one-hour workshop will help parents and caregivers discover how simple, meaningful conversations can build children's thinking, imagination, expressive language, and problem-solving skills. You'll explore practical strategies to enrich everyday interactions, including modelling rich language to build vocabulary, extending your child's conversations, using open-ended questions, understanding the value of comprehension time, and practising the "Strive for Five" approach through serve-and-return interactions. Together, we'll also explore how to invite conversations that feel warm, connected, and enjoyable rather than like a quiz.

This is a family-friendly event. The first section is for grown-ups only, with children supervised in the same area of the playgroup by the Playgroup Facilitator. We'll then reunite with the children to put our learning into practice through fun, conversation-based activities.

This workshop will run at the same time as the existing Nintirri Thursday playgroup, however, families who don't usually attend are warmly encouraged to come along too.
