Libraries

The Shire operates four public libraries located in Onslow, Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Tom Price.

The libraries may be used by anyone for study, general reading or as a place of relaxation. To borrow books it is necessary to register as a member and obtain a membership card. Visitors to the area who are members of another library in the State may use their card at the Shire's libraries during their stay.

Children are encouraged to join at an early age, so that they become familiar with public libraries and develop a love of the books as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that the children’s books are returned undamaged.

Membership is free, you just need to supply a form of identification.

Borrowing books and DVDs

All patrons are allowed 6 items per person, this includes 3 DVDs per household. All items are loaned to a borrower for 2 weeks. We ask that items be returned promptly. If however the borrower requires the item(s) for a longer period of time, please advise library staff and they will be able to re-issue the item for a further 2 weeks.

You can also borrow ebooks and eAudio books via the following links;

Special services

There is an inter-library loan service that is available. This allows patrons to order specific book titles, or items on a subject area, from the State Library or other libraries in Western Australia.

Special collections

Large print and audio books are available for loan.

If you are fluent in another language, there are books that are available for loan. If the library does not stock books in the language you are seeking, staff are able to access items from the State Library to accommodate your needs.

Internet services

Internet service is available to all library members for a small fee (with the exception of Onslow). Parents are asked to sign a permission slip for school age children, as librarians cannot supervise this service.

Reference collection

All libraries have a collection of reference material that is a valuable source of general information. These books are not normally available for loan.
