Council approved the concept plans for the Onslow Office/Hall and Library last month at its meeting on 16 April.

Council endorsed the Gresley Abas concept plan, which incorporated the results of community consultation, and allocated funding in the 2014/15 Budget.

Shire President Kerry White said it was important that the Shire considered future needs and took the opportunity to improve design and sustainability in the new building.

“Community consulation was invited for the hall and library areas and the community were asked to provide input on what may or may not have been present in the previous building,” Cr White said. “It is pleasing that Gresley Abas was able to incorporate most of that community input.

“Funding was considered by Council and while the insurance settlement has been received, application has also been made to access significant funds, that were allocated to similar projects, via the Onslow Social Infrastructure Fund.  Council resolved that a loan of up to $4million could be arranged to ensure the completion of the project.’

The next step in the process is to develop a Design and Construct tender which officers are currently working on.
