Active Ashburton Sports Awards
Sporting and recreation clubs and play an immensely important role within Shire of Ashburton communities, as they assist in building stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. The Active Ashburton Sports Awards provides an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the contribution and outstanding achievements of individuals and clubs found in Onslow, Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Tom Price.
Nominations will open for 2025 on Friday, 22 August.
Categories for Nomination
There are seven categories in which sporting teams, volunteers, long serving individuals and leaders across the Shire can be nominated! Please read the description for each category carefully, then click the link to get started on your nomination. These links will be clickable only when the Shire is accepting nominations.
- Category 1: Sportsperson of the Year
Awarded to an individual who displays strength and character and/or provided considerable achievement, support to the development of individuals/teams in their chosen sport.
- Category 2: Junior Sportsperson of the Year
Awarded to an individual who has achieved outstanding success in their sport. They must be aged 18 and under in corresponding year of competition.
- Category 3: Sporting Group of the Year
Awarded to an organisation who has demonstrated outstanding work and contribution to the Pilbara sporting community in the areas of organisational development, people development and participation within their chosen sport. The club’s base of operations or clubhouse must be located within the Shire of Ashburton.
- Category 4: Volunteer of the Year
Awarded to an individual who has displayed outstanding conduct as a volunteer in the support, administration and delivery of services to the sport within the Pilbara region.
- Category 5: Coach of the Year
Awarded to an individual who displays strength and character and/or provided considerable achievement, support to the development of individuals/teams in their chosen sport.
- Category 6: Official of the Year
Awarded to an individual who displays integrity and professionalism as an official (umpire/referee), and has contributed to the overall development of their chosen sport/s.
- Category 7: Service to Sport
The Service to Sport Award recognises the contribution made by an individual to sport or their sporting organisation through long and outstanding service (minimum 5 years)

A winner from each town will be selected in every category.
Nominations are open from Friday, 22 August 2025 until Friday, 19 September 2025.
