Onslow residents and visitors to the region are advised that Pilbara Ports Authority will be running their annual oil spill exercise on 18 August as listed below:
- Public boat ramp in Beadon Creek Launching and recovery of the oil spill response boat
- The area near and south of the public boat ramp in Four-mile creek Launching and recovery of the oil spill response boat, launching oil spill boom, drone surveillance, manoeuvring of the boat in the water.
- Port of Ashburton This exercise will see the deployment of assets in water such as response vessel, oil spill boom and other associated response gear
Aerial observation by drones will also be practised as part of the exercise.
The exercise is controlled from the Forward Operation Base (FOB) within the Port Authority premises at the Port of Ashburton. The field deployments and manoeuvres will be carried out in the vicinity of Ashburton Cargo Wharf.
The movement of the maritime assets involved in the exercise will be coordinated by FOB and will remain clear of all shipping. Any communication in relation to the exercise can be directed to the Ashburton Vessel Traffic Services team via 0891 5965 56.
This is a one-day exercise and is expected to run from 7:30am-4pm.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution while navigating in the vicinity of these area.
