The Shire of Ashburton are pleased to announce the Active Ashburton Sports Awards are launching for a consecutive year.
Recognising the sporting achievements of individuals and teams across the Shire, Active Ashburton Sports Awards are an important initiative recognising the countless hours of time and effort from individuals who contribute to the success of making the sporting community one which is strong, supportive, and thriving across all four towns.
Shire spokesperson says sport plays an important role in the social, mental and physical well-being of our towns, and the awards are a chance to show recognition to the hard work of participants and volunteers.
“In remote communities, sport plays a vital role, serving as the heartbeat of our towns. Through the dedication of passionate volunteers, numerous clubs and associations can offer a range of competitions for all age groups,” they said.
“These awards not only serve as a gesture of appreciation for the countless hours from individuals, but also the athletic achievements and sporting heroes we have in our towns.”
Six categories are open to public vote:
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Sporting Group of the Year
- Club Volunteer of the Year
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
- Excellence in Leadership
- Service to Sport
