Restrictions in place for the safety of residents during Clem Thompson Oval renovations

Clem Thompson Oval and training ground will be closed to the public for six weeks as the Shire of Ashburton undertakes scheduled oval renovations.

The renovations are part of the general care and maintenance of the oval to ensure it is in a safe and sustained condition for all residents, sporting groups, and associations.

As part of the renovation process, the oval will be top-dressed with organic sand after decompaction and tyning to improve soil quality.

The stockpile of top-dressing sand is a declared hazardous material and thus restricting measures will be in place to ensure the safety of residents.

Direct contact with this stockpiled material or its dust and/or liquid mists may cause skin irritation (dermatitis), skin or eye infection or irritation, and hayfever and / or asthma symptoms.

The health and wellbeing of our residents is the Shire of Ashburton’s top priority, so restrictive measures will be in place until the stockpile of sand mix is spread and watered in.

The stockpile of sand will be fenced off and labelled as ‘hazardous material’ and it is imperative that residents do not go near, play in, or touch the stockpiles for their own safety.
