The Shire of Ashburton’s School Holiday Program has entertained a record number of participants in week one with Bollywood and Street Dance, Dinosaur excavations, archeological digs and ‘beachology’ workshops thanks to the expert assistance of EG Incursions and Chevron  Archeologists and Marine Biologists. One Onslow mother of three was pleasantly relieved when her children saw the poster and exclaimed “Mum, we don’t want to go away for the school holidays, we want to stay and go to the activities!”

Chevron Cultural Heritage Advisor (and archaeologist) Lisa Murray ran a fun excavation to teach children about archaeology and involved the children uncovering a mock grave of “Red Legs the Pirate” and discovering a treasure map.

The participants had a hard time deciding what they enjoyed the most. Eight year old Brianna liked ‘beachology’ with Chevron Marine Biologist’s Alexia and Celia: : “I got to hang out with my friends at the beach doing lots of cool things we don’t get to do with Mum and Dad because we had Alexia and Celica there to teach us”.

The week concluded with a night at the movies for the crew of Onslow youth over 13 years.

The fun continues in week 2 with African dance and mask making workshops, Chinese Dragon Drama and two days of workshops by Eddie on the Road. The October program will conclude at the Onslow Community Garden with parents being treated to dinner and desert on Friday night (6 – 8pm) made by participants in two cooking sessions on Friday 10 October in the MPC kitchen.

Make sure your family don’t miss out!
