Infringements
There are many local laws relating to the control of cats, dogs, parking, littering and off road vehicles where infringements may apply for non-compliance. Please read below for further details or alternatively you can click on the quick links to be taken to a particular area of interest.
Cats
Please also refer to the Cat Act 2011 and the Shire's Local Law Relating to the Control of Cats.
- No more than two (2) cats over the age of six (6) months are permitted on properties within the Shire, with some exceptions.
- All cats must be microchipped, sterilised and registered.
- Impound fees cost $20 with a $5 per day sustenance fee, which must be paid prior to the release of your cat.
Dogs
Please refer to the Dog Act 1976 and Dogs Local Law 2012.
- Dogs in public places must be maintained under effective control.
- No more than two (2) dogs over the age of three (3) months are permitted on properties within the Shire, with some exceptions.
- Dogs are not permitted in public buildings or places where food or drink is prepared or exposed for sale. Failure to comply can result in a maximum penalty of $1000.
- All dogs over the age of three (3) months must be registered and wear a collar bearing a disc with the owner’s name, address and current registration tag. Failure to comply can result in a maximum penalty of $500.
- Dog attacks are considered serious offences, with maximum penalties of up to $10,000.
- If your dog is found wandering, impound fees will apply. These costs are $40 plus $10 per day sustenance fee, which must be paid prior to the release of your dog.
Parking
- Please ensure you obey parking signs located across the Shire’s towns.
- Only drivers with a current ACROD sticker may park in bays set aside for people with disabilities.
Litter
- It is an offence to dispose of household or commercial waste in public bins designed to take small individual items of litter.
- Affixing unauthorised publicity materials, wilfully or accidentally setting fire to, or altering the proper appearance of public rubbish bins can attract a fine of up to $1000 per offence.
- Dumping rubbish in bushland is also an offence.
- When taking rubbish to the tip, remember it is an offence to tow a trailer that has an uncovered or improperly secured load.
Off road vehicles
- Under the Control of Vehicles (Off-Roads) Act, all off-road vehicles must be registered at the police station. The cost of registration is $12 per vehicle.
- All off-road vehicles must comply with prescribed safety and noise standards and can only be used in specified areas within the Shire or on private land.
- Children under eight (8) years of age are not allowed to drive off-road vehicles, except on private land where the owner’s or occupier’s consent has been given.
