Water Sampling
Samples of water from private sources are sometimes taken to determine suitability for human consumption. Non scheme water supplies used by the public are also monitored to ensure they are safe for human consumption. (this includes roadhouses and National Parks). Environmental Health Services ensures that the water provided for the community is safe for its intended use.
Sewage effluent is sampled and tested to ensure that the effluent is in accordance with the Health Department criteria for utilisation schemes. Samples may also be taken to establish the origin and makeup of the water source.
Water used in the Shire's public swimming pools, (including holiday accommodation such as motels and caravan parks), is tested on a regular basis for chemical, bacterial and amoebic levels.
