Tom Price Skate Park is set to undergo a major upgrade following Council’s approval of a $950,000 concept at March Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Late last year, the Shire of Ashburton engaged Skate Sculpture, a Perth-based specialty skate park design consultancy, to facilitate a community consultation session and onsite inspection to determine what the community and skate park users wanted from the upgrade.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White acknowledged that the session provided the Shire with valuable feedback on what the community would like to see included in the works.

“The community consultation participants took part in a series of presentations, design activities, survey and photo shoots”, said Councillor White.

“The most popular option for the skatepark extension was a large flow bowl which is indicative of their increasing popularity in skate parks in the past decade, made famous by international competitions.

“Other highly sought features included shade, seating and water fountains.

“The endorsed option will take up most of the available space with a flow bowl, and an additional skatepark section will feature some of the most frequently requested skate park obstacles including a stair set, A-frame and bank to extension.

“It is envisaged that these upgrades and extension will provide Tom Price skate park users with a diverse and complete skate park for many years into the future”.

The Shire of Ashburton have committed $250,000  to the project with additional funding currently being sought through Building Better Regions Funding.
