The Shire of Ashburton will receive $300,000 from Building Better Regions Fund towards the current upgrade of Tom Price Skate Park.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White acknowledged that the funding from the Federal Government as part of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) will enable the Shire to address the capacity constraints and enhance the amenity.

“I am pleased that the Tom Price Skate Park expansion and upgrade has been considered and the proposed works will continue on schedule” said Councillor White.

“The BBRF supports the Australian Government's commitment to build stronger regional communities into the future with support for infrastructure projects and community development activities and opportunities.

“Council endorsed phase two of the upgrade at the August Ordinary Meeting of Council and a request for tender will shortly be released for the next stage of the skatepark expansion including a feature fishbowl element, skate park obstacles including a stair set, A-frame and bank to extension.

“It is anticipated construction will get underway in the coming months with the revitalised facility available to the community from mid-2022.”

The $950,000 project is being funded by the Shire of Ashburton, who have committed $250,000 to the project and Rio Tinto also committing $400,000 to the upgrade in addition to the Building Better Regions Funding.
