Residents reminded to dispose of waste correctly

Residents across all towns are advised that it is an offence against the Litter Act 1976 to dump waste on property other than your own.

This includes vacant lots, reserves and bushland in surrounding areas.

Penalties for illegal dumping of waste can be up to $5 000 for an individual and up to $10 000 for a corporate body.

Residents are reminded to utilise dedicated waste facilities in their town to effectively dispose of waste.

Containers for Change also runs in all four towns where residents can redeem most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard drink containers between 150ml and 3L and marked with ‘10c’ for a refund or donation.

Follow the Shire of Ashburton on Facebook and Instagram for more information.
