Residents across the Shire reminded to not overfill their residential bins

Published on Thursday, 3 August 2023 at 8:00:00 AM

Residents are asked to use their residential bins correctly to prevent overflowing bins which result in street litter.

Consistent overfilling of bins allows the wind to flip the partially open lids, and for birdlife to flip the lids completely, remove, and rip up waste, causing litter.

This litter then blows into neighbouring properties and vegetation, resulting in necessary waste removal from properties and surrounding bushland.

It is the responsibility of residents ensure their waste does not become litter.

Littering is a punishable offence under the Litter Act 1979.

Residents are asked to not try and combat overflowing bins by placing any kind weight on the lid as this results in the bin being unable to be collected by the Waste Truck.

To assist our Waste, Ranger Services, and Town Maintenance Crews, residents are asked to use their bins correctly by filling them to their intended capacity, and report any instances of overflowing bins or litter by calling 08 9188 4444 or completing a Customer Action Request form via https://www.ashburton.wa.gov.au/forms/see-it-report-it!/2
