COVID-19 restrictions expected to ease

This morning Federal Government announced a three step plan to ease the restrictions put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to look towards a more normal way of living for all Australians.

This three step plan forms the basis of what individual States and Territories may choose to do in the coming days and weeks and will be reviewed by National Cabinet every three weeks.

For Western Australians we will be advised by State Government on Sunday 10 May 2020 as to what our roadmap will look like for us.

While we expect to see a staggered resumption of normal activities in the coming weeks, we need to remain vigilant as the threat of the virus remains and continued suppression of COVID-19 requires all members of the community to work together.

  • Continue social distancing and good healthy hygiene habits and stay home except for
    • Shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies
    • Medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements
    • Exercise, including outdoor personal training without shared equipment
    • Training or University study, where remote learning is unavailable
    • Childcare or school
    • Work
    • Non-contact recreational activities such as private picnics in the park, fishing, boating, hiking and camping − all in compliance with travel restrictions and the new 10-person rule
    • Home opens and display village openings, with appropriate record keeping and hygiene practices in place, and in compliance with the 10-person rule
  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell.
  • Get tested for COVID-19 if you have or have had a fever, or currently have a respiratory illness.
  • Download the COVIDSafe app.

Restrictions over travel between regions within Western Australia are still in effect.

Local businesses are also asked to prepare and take time to develop a plan to operate in a COVID safe way to protect their customers and workers so that they are ready to reignite in the coming weeks.

The Shire of Ashburton is taking steps to reopen some of our facilities in line with government recommendations and will provide an update next week.
