Paraburdoo

Just 24kms north of the Tropic of Capricorn, Paraburdoo is a 40-year-old purpose built mining town that lies on the desert fringe of the Hamersley Ranges.

It is renowned for its beautiful scenery, wildlife diversity and interesting short history - including UFO sightings, the discovery of 200-year-old bones and royal visits.

The town boasts a hospital, a primary school, and a variety of sporting facilities including an oval, basketball courts, skatepark, tennis courts, swimming pool and air-conditioned squash courts.

Paraburdoo's highest recorded maximum temperature is 48.9C and the lowest recorded temperature is 1.5C. The average rainfall is 295mm. Rainfall can vary considerably from the average due to seasonal cyclones.

There is accommodation available at the local hotel, and P&O Catering facilities. IGA operates a modern supermarket from within the shopping centre in Paraburdoo where there is a pharmacy, newsagency, bakery and cafe.

Just outside of the town is the Paraburdoo Airport, located 9km northeast of Paraburdoo. The airport serves the towns of Paraburdoo and Tom Price with bus services completing the extra 71km journey to Tom Price.
