Citizenship

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all face-to-face citizenship ceremonies have been placed on hold.

The Department of Home Affairs is currently working to introduce online citizenship ceremonies via secure video link, to enable conferees to continue to become Australian citizens.

Once councils are able to re-commence ceremonies, conferees’ names will once again be allocated based on the approval date.

If you have any enquiries from conferees regarding online ceremonies please have them contact [email protected]

Citizenship Ceremonies

The President, Councillors and the Chief Executive Officer are authorised to conduct Citizenship Ceremonies on behalf of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia. The role of the Shire of Ashburton and local government in general is to conduct a meaningful, dignified and memorable ceremony to mark the occasion of the acquisition of Australian citizenship.

Australian Citizenship application forms are available from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship or at Australia Post branches. All enquiries regarding the application for citizenship must be directed to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and NOT the Shire of Ashburton.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship can be contacted at 411 Wellington Street, Perth, or on 131881.
