With our tourist season about to kick off, we are pleased to be participating at the Perth Caravan and Camping Show this weekend.

Commencing today, the show at Claremont Showgrounds is a highlight on the annual calendar for those who love outdoor adventure.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she thrilled the Shire were participating at the show following the cancellation of last year’s event due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

“The show really sums up the adventure and travel experience that the Shire of Ashburton offers to our visitors and tourists”, said Councillor White.

“We are home to world renowned Karijini National Park and the equally impressive Millstream Chichester National Park with deep red earth gorges, waterholes and ancient landscapes.

“In contrast we are also home to an untouched coastline off Onslow that boasts pristine turquoise waters surrounding numerous islands, including the Mackerel Islands, and some of Western Australia’s best fishing and diving.

“Our inland towns of Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica showcase the cornerstone of Australia’s mining and resources with options for industry tours and experiences. Onslow on the other hand has a rich history initially established as a coastal port for agriculture and even pearling prior to recent growth from the oil and gas industry.

“Vast, stunning scenery and wide, open night skies and are part of our everyday here in Australia’s North West and we want to share that experience whether you are into fishing, astronomy, geo-tourism, history, hiking four of WA’s tallest mountains or off road adventure.

“A few weeks ago the Shire played host to 4 Wheeling Australia and renowned WA 4-wheel driving enthusiast Ronny Dahl as they traveled an full itinerary that started and finished in Onslow, taking in the Ashburton River, numerous stations along the way to Tom Price and through to Karijini, Millstream and out to the coast again.

“This, along with investments into local tourism projects, are just some of the recent initiatives the Shire is undertaking to encourage visitors to ‘holiday here this year’.

“Last year we experienced an influx of visitors from around the state and intrastate as restrictions allowed, and with this in mind we have been working hard to create true tourism experiences and travel itineraries for future and repeat visitors”.
