Take advantage of flights to and from Onslow this tourist season

The possibility of a long weekend to Perth is now on the cards for Pilbara residents with Qantas offering seats on flights in and out of Onslow airport for a limited time.

From April to September, Onslow community members can take advantage of a Qantas Perth to Onslow service on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she is excited that the local community and those thinking about visiting Onslow can avail of this service.

“This is a fantastic initiative for Onslow, especially as we are at the beginning of our tourist season and participating in campaigns to ‘wander out yonder’ and ‘holiday here this year’, the opportunity to avail of extended air travel options into Onslow opens up our region to more visitors”, said Councillor White.

“Visitors can land in Onslow and slip into a quiet, laid back getaway on the coast with the prospect of some of the best fishing in Western Australia, discovering the islands and reefs offshore and switching off from everyday life.

“Those wanting to explore the region, can skip the drive from Perth and start their adventure in Onslow, travel across to Tom Price and take in both Karijini and Millstream Chichester National Parks, renowned for their natural beauty, rugged landscapes and clear waterholes, and then back to Onslow as a self-drive loop taking in all that the Shire of Ashburton has to offer.

“As the gateway to the Pilbara, visitors can also choose to extend their stay with Onslow as a base and take a couple of days to explore nearby destinations of Exmouth and Karratha.

“The availability of additional flight options is also hugely beneficial to our residents, community members and local businesses who often need to travel to Perth for work purposes or to access services not available in the region”.

“I encourage locals and visitors alike to make the most of this initiative and take advantage of the limited additional seats being made available”.

Qantas currently operates charter services to Onslow on behalf of Rio Tinto and from 1 April to September 2021, a number of seats on these flights will be available for regular passenger travel with fares from $329 one-way available for booking via www.qantas.com or travel agents from Thursday 25 March 2021.

The Shire of Ashburton is investing into a number of tourism and economic development opportunities for Onslow and late last year adopted a Marketing and Communications Strategy that has identified a number of key opportunities for development of tourism, future investment and liveability within the Shire.
