The Shire of Ashburton is working with Karratha Vet Hospital to coordinate a free desexing campaign for pet owners in Onslow and Pannawonica.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the Shire’s ranger services proactive approach.

“Ranger services have been actively working with Karratha Vet Hospital and also SAFE Karratha to ensure animal management in Onslow and Pannawonica” said Councillor White.

“The campaign scheduled to take place from Monday 13 September to Sunday 19 September and will include free-of-charge sterilisation, disease treatment, microchipping, animal welfare checks and more.

“Pet owners are being encouraged to register now to secure their place as appointments will be limited.

“Ranger services will then get in touch with interested participants and assist with the completion of the required paperwork prior to the appointments later this year.

“The initiative is bookmarked, subject to approval, to be filmed and televised on the popular Nine Network program Desert Vets, highlighting the vital work of our ranger and environmental health services.

“I would like to also acknowledge our community partners Chevron and Pilbara Port Authority who have both committed $5,000 fund the campaign”.

Dr Katy Davis and Ranger Hamish will be introducing themselves to Onslow and Pannawonica community over the coming weeks to provide information and encourage participation.
