The Shire of Ashburton is releasing an Expression of Interest calling for nominations from community members to form an Art Selection Working Group as part of the Onslow Water Tank Mural Project.
The Shire has taken into consideration feedback received from the community earlier this year and acknowledges just how important this project is to the Onslow residents.
Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was pleased the Shire were moving forward with the project, having recently appointed Element Advisory to provide art consultancy services to assist the Shire deliver the project and also facilitate the process, ensuring a best practice approach to is taken.
“We are calling for expressions of interest from the Onslow community for representatives for an Artwork Selection Working Group”, said Councillor White.
“The working group is intended to represent the interests of Onslow’s local community, residents, and businesses, and successful nominees will assist in reviewing artist submissions and provide a recommendation for the preferred artwork for the Onslow Water Tanks.
“The working group will be guided by a terms of reference and consider Council’s vision for the artwork.
“The intention of Council’s vision for the mural is to involve themes of Onslow’s community, history and a reflection of its past to modern day, that considers our indigenous heritage, pearling and agriculture industries, and the stories that make Onslow the authentic coastal town it is today.
“I encourage those who have a strong connection to the community, considerable and relevant local knowledge and a strong and healthy connection to Onslow and the wider region, to apply”.
Nominations can be submitted online via the Shire’s website or forms will also be available at Onslow Shire Administration building.
