Onslow’s newly created gymnasium will open to the public next week following a seven-month project to relocate and extend the existing gym facilities.

The Shire of Ashburton is pleased to advise Onslow community members that the new facility will open its doors on Monday 5 July.

Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said she was pleased to see another important project completed from the 20/21 budget and that the Shire were able to realise a dedicated and fully equipped gym for Onslow residents.

“The Shire is committed to creating vibrant and active communities as per our strategic planning and to ensure that residents have access to a range of quality and sustainable services and facilities”, said Councillor White.

“$2.5M funding was secured toward the extension of the Onslow gym and childcare facilities in Onslow last year, funded in partnership with the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project.

“The gym in its new location at Lot 644 Third Avenue, forms part of a broader sporting precinct in one easily-accessible area, adjacent to the Onslow Sports Club, tennis courts and oval.

“With a focus on the community’s health and wellbeing, the gym also boasts improved amenities and 24-hour access to enable those involved with shift work and rosters to use the facility any time of the day or night.

“The gym will be manned on Monday 5 July from 8.30am – 9.30am to allow those thinking about a membership the opportunity to view the facility.

“Shire officers are also looking for feedback as to what members and those considering joining would like to see included as new equipment.

“Feedback and suggestions are welcome and can be submitted through our website at  www.ashburton.wa.gov.au/consultations/projects/onslow-gym. Feedback closes Friday 23 July.
